About shoe size units
How shoe sizes work
EU sizes are based on the length of the shoe last in Paris points (2/3 cm each). US and UK sizes are based on barleycorns (about 8.5 mm) and started from different zero points, which is why they differ by about 1 size. Japanese sizes are just the foot length in centimeters — the most honest of the lot.
